Welcome to THE RED LODGE CLEARINGHOUSE,
the full-service information source for collaborative groups
committed to resolving resource-use
conflicts.

The Red Lodge Clearinghouse (the Clearinghouse) grew out of a 2001 workshop dedicated to scientist and conservationist Dr. Arnold Bolle. Leading collaboration advocates, researchers and practitioners attended the workshop sponsored by the Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation. Since then, Foundation staff, the Red Lodge working group and other advisors have guided the design and operation of the Clearinghouse to support, nurture and connect collaborative natural resource groups. This month, the Natural Resources Law Center at the University of Colorado School of Law (the Center) assumes management of the project for the Foundation.
By highlighting important resource issues and providing a variety of "how to" advice, legal primers, leads on funding sources, and lessons-learned from active collaborative groups, the Clearinghouse has served a broad community of interests concerned with responsible management of western natural resources. The Center plans to continue this work, but also recognizes the recent expansion and maturation of collaborative resource management (CRM).

In the coming months, the Center will evaluate the website's goals, services, and audience. We envision a site that will not only grow with its original audience, but will also stimulate additional site traffic, a broadened community of users, and a more interactive format. With your help, the Clearinghouse will be a more lively and dynamic setting where people interested in protecting resources and communities can both learn and teach:
- conveying lessons about natural resources problem-solving (whether collaborative or not),
- offering opinions on current and emerging issues, and
- providing the information and insights necessary to ensure that the Clearinghouse community of users can be effective, proactive stewards of the landscape.
The Center, a trusted voice for sustainable resource management in the West, is no stranger to collaboration or to the Clearinghouse. The Center has supported the collaboration community with our research since the mid-1990s, participated in the initial Red Lodge workshop, and produced the Legislation and Regulations section of the website over the past four years. In addition, the goals of the Clearinghouse are closely aligned with the mission of the Center: to "inform and influence" natural resource law and policy.
In the coming months, the Center will:
- further refine the long-term vision for the Clearinghouse (including reassessing the roles of the on-line newsletter and expanding opportunities for website user feedback and interactions);
- update the design and functioning of the website to take advantage of advances in website technology; and
- reach out to the natural resources and western communities to increase and diversify our audience.
We expect to make these changes in collaboration with you our constituents.
